Single-segment 100% speed run of Metroid Zero Mission, done on July 31 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60fps high quality.
Author's comments: Well, this run had 2 route changes from the last one. The 1st is the fact that I skipped Varia completely. It's completely unecessary as long as I take one refill at Hi-Jump that I never used to take, plus the fact that they GIVE it to you later when you obtain the Fully Powered Suit. The 2nd is 1 missile/super missile exapnsion in Norfair, in the room where you're supposed to freeze the bug to get up to the super (and then either re-freeze the bug or bomb jump out of the magma to get to the missile). I skip this until later after I have Space Jump when I come back to grab the Power Bomb Expansion. Since I need to build up speed anyway so I can spark through the long room, it takes no extra time to get to those expansions compared to grabbing them the 1st time through.
As for mistakes...there were a bunch, but the breakdown look something like this (measured in time lost): 50% = Bosses/Mini-Bosses 40% = First 5-10 minutes of play time 10% = Everything else
Out of all my boss/mini-boss battles, my fight with the Imago Cocoon was easily the worst (followed closely by the Chozo Ghost and Metal Ridley). I could have easily shaved 10-15 seconds on the Cocoon if I hadn't screwed up as bad as I did, the Chozo Ghost was just REALLY bad luck (10-15 seconds here too), and Metal Ridley was just poor aim on my part (5-10 seconds). Other boss battles I wasn't too happy with were Kraid (5-10 seconds caused by falling), Ridley (3-5 seconds caused by missing with a super missile), and Mother Brain (3-5 seconds caused by a cheerio knocking me off the platform just as I blew the tank open).
If memory serves me correctly, though, I pretty much pulled off every speed trick I attempted on the first try, with a couple exceptions. Sub 57 minutes is easily possible, and at some point I'm going to aim for sub 56 minutes.
